The heated salt water pool at Baraccò Argia, eleven metres by five, edged in stone under the holm oaks

Patrimonio · Barbaggio · Northern Corsica

Baraccò Argia

A shepherd’s house in the vineyards, and its heated pool

The house

A shepherd’s house, and what became of it

Before it was Baraccò Argia, it was a shepherd’s house. I rebuilt it completely in 2024, and it keeps changing every year. The holm oaks and the strawberry trees were here long before us. They stayed, and the house settled in between them.

This is not a flat kitted out for letting. It is a house lived in all year round, which I rent out part of the time. That is why it is equipped like a real house and not like a yield product.

April to October

You are still swimming when everyone else has gone home

Eleven metres by five, heated, salt water, open from early April to the end of October. In May as in October the water is good, the light is low, and the beaches are empty. Those are the two finest months on the island.

The pool is deep and the garden is not fenced. An adult must watch children in the water at all times.

And in the evening

Nobody is looking into anybody’s windows

The house stands alone in its wood, in the middle of the Patrimonio vines. Nothing overlooks it, nothing is audible, and the oaks keep the terrace cool even in real heat.

The rooms

A three-metre window, and the outside comes in

The living room, the long table and the kitchen all open onto each other. The whole house is air conditioned, room by room, each with its own unit you set yourself. A projector has replaced the living room television, and there is a PlayStation 5.

The bedrooms

Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, four toilets

That is what makes the house work as well with friends as with family. Each bedroom has its own king bed, its own bathroom and its own toilet, and a fourth separate toilet serves the living rooms. With six adults, nobody waits in the morning.

Miles · United States · July 2026 · Airbnb
“A perfect house with older children or with friends, thanks to the bedrooms having their own bathroom and toilet. Cosy house, very well equipped, with very good beds. The outside is lovely, surrounded by nature and close to the vines.”

The questions I get asked

How many people does Baraccò Argia sleep?

Six adults. The house has three bedrooms, each with a king bed, its own bathroom and its own toilet, plus a fourth separate toilet. A cot is provided on request, at no extra cost.

Has the house been renovated?

Yes, completely, in 2024, and it keeps changing every year. The kitchen and living room are new, each bedroom has its own bathroom and toilet, and a fourth separate toilet serves the living rooms.

Is this a rental property or a real house?

It is a real house, lived in all year round. It is not a unit kitted out for letting: it is somewhere I live, and I rent it out part of the year.

Is the house air conditioned?

Yes, the whole house, not just the bedrooms. Every room has its own unit that you set yourself. Outside, the oaks keep the terrace cool even in real heat.

Are there neighbours?

No. The house stands alone, in a wood of holm oaks level with the Patrimonio vines. Nothing overlooks it, and the view runs to the mountain and the vineyard.

How big is the house?

145 m² of living space, all on one level, with no stairs anywhere. The grounds around it are private.

How many toilets are there?

Four. Each of the three bedrooms has its own bathroom with a toilet, and a fourth separate toilet serves the living rooms. With six adults, nobody waits.

Is the pool heated?

Yes, heated and salt water. It is open from early April to the end of October, which lets you swim well beyond the sea swimming season.

How big is the pool?

Eleven metres by five. Guests regularly find it bigger than they expected, because nothing crowds it and it is surrounded by a wide stone deck.

Can you swim in Corsica in October?

In the sea, the water stays around 21 to 22 degrees in early October in the gulf of Saint-Florent, which is still very pleasant. Here the pool is heated and open until the end of October.

Is the pool safe for children?

The pool is deep and the garden is not fenced. An adult must watch children in the water at all times, and armbands are compulsory for anyone who cannot swim.
